Three year PQE Solicitor/Barrister

Full-time role in the litigation department. 

Based in London (City)

 Summary of Role

  • To supervise and mentor junior members of staff as required.

The successful candidate will join a small and exceptionally busy team which deals with a range of commercial and civil disputes, insolvency (personal and corporate) matters, property litigation and commercial debt recovery. The successful candidate will support the team with a broad caseload including but not limited to:

• Acting on behalf businesses and individuals on a wide and varied range of civil and general commercial disputes.

• Advising clients on all aspects of civil and commercial litigation, including contractual advice and negotiation and raising and defending court actions in the High Court and County Courts.

Key responsibilities

Provide high-quality legal services to the firm’s clients, predominantly in relation to commercial disputes and employment matters.

Conduct your own cases and assist other fee earners and partners in providing advice and representation to the firm’s clients.

Work in accordance with detailed procedures and quality standards contained in the firm’s policies and procedures.

Develop and maintain good client relationships.

Be able to deal confidently and professionally with clients in order to gain and maintain their confidence.

Demonstrate knowledge commensurate with experience.

Prepare high-quality reports to clients, written submissions, court documents and letters.

Negotiate settlements. 

Ensure services are provided in a timely fashion and the client is informed regularly on progress and costs.

Achieve targets for billing and time recording.

Take overall responsibility for credit control on own matters.

Carry out duties in a professional manner, comply with relevant professional standards and any requirement set by relevant regulators including the Bar Standards Board (BSB).

Develop and maintain the competencies necessary to provide a proper standard of service to clients and maintain a record of professional development.

Comply with internal procedures and systems of the firm including file and case management, file audits, client due diligence and time recording. Share information and best practice with colleagues.

Adhere to and promote the firm’s equality and diversity policy.

Knowledge, skills and qualifications

Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales (three years’ PQE preferred).

Strong academic background with at least an upper second-class honours degree.

A sound understanding of the litigation process.

Civil higher rights of audience would be a distinct advantage

Expertise in key areas of law and procedure including advocacy, civil procedure, and dispute resolution.

Knowledge of and an interest in financial services disputes and disputes with an international element would be advantageous. Able to conduct own caseload with minimal supervision, and to supervise or mentor others.

Knowledge and understanding of the BSB Handbook and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Ability to work on own initiative and as well as part of a team.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

IT skills commensurate with the role including the ability to work without secretarial assistance utilising firm’s case management system.

Commercial and financial awareness including the ability to take responsibility for financial control of own client matters.

Able to develop positive relationships with clients and manage client expectations.

Effective prioritisation with the ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.

Marketing, networking and business development skills commensurate with the role.

Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
