The Government has revoked the day-one right to claim unfair dismissal included in it's manifesto, swiftly amending the time frame to six months following business groups pointing out that the day-one right may impact on business's decisions to hire new employees. Six business groups voiced concerns and are now said to be relieved at the Government's reaction.
In order to dismiss an employee there must be fair reasons for the decision and a new body, The Fair Work Agency is to be set up in 2026 is tasked to oversee the new employee rights that the Government is introducing. There is a concern that the day-one rights will lead to far more cases before the employment tribunals that are already struggling with large backlogs.
