One of the most well known and prestigious areas in Sardinia is the renowned Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) on the northeastern coastline centered on Porto Cervo.  This coastline has been known as an exclusive luxury summer holiday resort of the international jet set since the 1960s when Aga Khan discovered Sardinia and turned it into a destination for the rich and famous. Its elegant resorts and luxury villas overlooking the beautiful bays are second to none.   The wonderful luxury yachts belonging to many international millionaires and famous movie stars make this place even more fascinating.  Waterfront properties in Costa Smeralda are sold for tens of millions of euro making Sardinia one of the most prestigious luxury real estate locations in Europe.

There are plenty of areas along the peninsula bounded by Olbia to the east and Castelsardo to the west that are more affordable and popular with foreign buyers.  Villas close to the waterfront start around €3 million.  Apartments and houses in Castelsardo, an old town fortified with a castle, prices start from €100,000.  Alghero, one of Sardinia’s most beautiful medieval cities, located in the northwest offers large apartments and houses with prices starting from €120,000 and villas with sea view from € 2.25 million; around Cagliari, the southern of Sardinia, properties by the coast start about €1.25 million.
